Carol Gautschi, CPM, LM is a Certified Professional Midwife (NARM certified) and is also licensed by the state of Washington. She is the longest continuously practicing home-birth midwife on the Olympic Peninsula. She has been a birth attendant since 1978 and has attended over 1,500 births for families in her community and abroad.

Mrs. Gautschi is well-respected in the midwifery community, and has served as Chairwoman of Childbearing Ministries in Washington State. Currently she chairs Birth Matters, a collective of families interested in increasing the awareness of the safety and sanctity of birth at home.

She also chairs W.A.R.M.Washington Alliance for Responsible Midwiferyandserves as Vice President of Global Midwifery Council. Although she sounds busy, she makes time for her community and even answers her phone (most times)! Availability and relationship is part of the ways of Classical Midwifery.

As a senior, well-experienced midwife she has taught midwifery skill workshops and passes on her expertise and wisdom in the time-honored tradition of apprenticeship. She also teaches for “Midwifery Today” (http://www.midwiferytoday.com), which has included anything from complications, to the epic nature of birth physiology, the Microbiome, breech birth, VBAC, and the very present, powerful, yet invisible realm of birth. Some of the countries she has visited for midwifery or taught in are: Australia, Belgium, China, Ecuador, France, Jordan, Israel, Germany, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey. She has learned a tremendous amount from each culture and brings it back to the Olympic Peninsula to give back to her community.

Her first love is serving as a midwife! So, when she is here, she wants to stay busy and be open to all the women who would like her care. Because of her teaching schedule she is not always available when you are due, so please contact her as soon as you can, to secure the opportunity to meet her.

As a classical midwife, she teaches her own highly-revered childbirth classes and often takes lovely photos for you at your birth!
